Frequently Asked Questions
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is a method of gathering knowledge and energy from the physical and non-physical realms of nature and spirit for the purpose of healing. Shamanism is not a religion. It is a healing tradition that has formed the basis of care and support in indigenous cultures for over 60,000 years. The basic premise of shamanism is that everything is imbued with spirit. Working in conjunction with this life-force energy (spirit) can bring about profound transformation and healing for individuals, communities, and cultures.
As a contemporary healing technique, shamanism meets the very practical needs for working with the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of modern life.
What is a Shamanic Practitioner/ Healer?
A Shamanic Healer is a one who has been called to the path of healing and teaching by the powerful realm of the Divine-Spirit. She is one who works in relationship with this unseen realm – the realm of Spirit – to bring about change and transformation spiritually, physically, emotionally and psychologically.
A Shamanic Practitioner practices the shamanic arts of retrieving our soul essence, restoring personal power that we have lost or given away, compassionately releasing foreign energy that we carry, helping the dead cross over into the afterlife, releasing the habits that we have inherited from our families of origin, clearing foreign energy from land and buildings, establishing a reciprocal relationship with spirits of the land, and reconnecting us with the inherent joy and ease of our very truest nature.
How do I decide if shamanic healing can benefit me?
Do you feel stuck in your life? Are you seeking to feel a greater sense of joy? Are you struggling under the weight of depression? Are you seeking to make changes in your life? Do you doubt yourself? Experience excessive fear, anxiety, panic? Wish for guidance about life decisions? Feeling on-edge? Would you like to be closer to that secret dream that lives in your heart? Do you wonder if there is more to a physical, or psychological illness that you are experiencing? Have you had a traumatic experience? Need additional support in your life? Are you stuck in an addictive pattern? Trying to overcome an obstacle in your life, work, family, relationship, that you just can’t put your finger on? Having odd body sensations, numbness or pain? Do you need to relax and experience your own inner wisdom, and joy?
If you answer Yes to any of these questions, shamanic healing could be of benefit.
How does one know if healing has taken place?
You are changed or transformed. You feel different. Your relationship to the challenge (emotion, physical or psychological illness, addictive behavior, fear, doubt, joy, etc) changes! The shift may be subtle or dramatic, yet it is palpable. YOU feel it.
Can I be healed in one session?
What a lovely idea. Sometimes profound healing and transformation, that satisfy your needs at the moment, happen in one session. Most often sessions are catalysts for further transformation in our lives. Healing is a journey, our process of blooming. It takes place over time and in layers. We transform at the rate of our own personal ability to receive healing at any given time in our lives. Sometimes, one session will meet your current needs. Other times a series of sessions or ongoing healing and guidance are needed to work through a challenging layer.
What happens in a shamanic healing session?
First, you are welcomed exactly as you are without judgement into the healing space. I listen to the challenge you are facing, a question (or series of questions) you are seeking divination on, etc. Then I journey to a collaboration of yours and my Helping Spirits and ask how to best meet your needs. The guidance received may be to perform hands on energy healing, facilitate you on a shamanic journey, or journey on your behalf to bring guidance and deeper knowing regarding the challenge.
Can shamanic healing take place from a distance?
Yes! Because shamanic healing takes place in the energetic, spirit realm it is equally powerful in-person and at a distance (by phone, skype, etc.)
